The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ibadan Zone has called for the resignation of the Vice Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali over allegations of fraud levelled against him.
ASUU while urging the VC to honourably resign his appointment to allow for independent investigation of fraud levelled against him, noted that the federal government cannot continue to pretend to be against corruption when it had remained silent on several whistle blowing over alleged fraud by the present and immediate past Vice Chancellor of the institution.
The union also want the Ministry of Education, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) to swing into action in order to avoid insinuation of complicity.
ASUU in a press release signed on its behalf by Dr. Ade Adejumo and Dr. Deji Omole and made available to journalists in Ibadan on Sunday stated that the call became imperative in view of the monumental fraud revealed by an investigative report of a newspaper, which lent credence to the petition the union submitted against the present and past UNILORIN vice chancellors.
The union in the petition had alleged that the Vice Chancellor was involved in fraud, plagiarism, nepotism, lawlessness, unlawful appointment and promotion without following due process, as well as defrauding students of millions of naira.
